The SunBorne Companies are a family of companies created, owned and principally
managed by Michael K. Packard. SunBorne Development, LLC, SunBorne, XVI, and SunBorne
Realty & Management, LLC are the three principal companies that comprise the SunBorne
Companies. Currently these entities act with the purpose to conceive, plan, design,
process, implement, and operate the 125 acre leased parcel/property at Centennial
Airport now known as Centennial InterPort™.
Established in 1992, SunBorne Development, LLC was created for the purpose of planning,
development and ownership of large mixed use real estate projects. Prior to Centennial
InterPort™, SunBorne Development, LLC initiated and completed several significant
real estate projects in Colorado including the Centennial Airport Center and the
Gateway Plaza in Colorado Springs. Today, SunBorne Development, LLC manages anything
to do with personnel, design, development, and construction at Centennial InterPort™.
SunBorne XVI, Ltd. was created in 1997 and is the master lessee of the land from
the Airport Authority. And finally, SunBorne Realty & Management, LLC handles all
operations having to do with brokerage, leasing, tenant improvement construction,
and other related functions.
As the Managing General Partner, Mr. Michael K. Packard brings a great deal of
professional experience to the SunBorne Companies. Mr. Packard’s professional qualifications
date back to 1971 when he began his career in real estate development with the Irvine
Company, an internationally recognized developer of master planned communities located
in Orange County, CA. He has been in management positions with three major real
estate development organizations with direct management responsibilities for projects
encompassing more than 10,000 acres of land, 25,000 homes and nearly 10 million
square feet of commercial and industrial properties. Beyond his extensive real estate
experience, Mr. Packard has also had a lifelong interest and involvement in aviation-related
activities. He became a licensed glider pilot on his 14th birthday and he continues
to be actively engaged in a variety of aviation pursuits.
Bret Packard is Vice President of Development for SunBorne Development, LLC. In
his 10 years with the company he has overseen the installation of all the major
infrastructure as well as most of the buildings currently existing at Centennial
InterPort. His background includes 12 years of commercial and residential development
with the majority focused on master planned projects. He also has his private pilot
certificate and continues to be involved in aviation for personal enjoyment as well
as staying in touch with the airport community.
Serving as Director of Marketing and Sales for SunBorne Development, LLC is Mr.
Iver L. Retrum. Mr. Retrum has 14 years of aviation related work experience, 8 of
those years being specific to aviation marketing and sales. Since receiving his
Bachelors of Science in Aviation Technology from Metro State College of Denver,
Mr. Retrum has worked in a variety of aviation specific roles with such companies
as Signature Flight Support, Inc and ARINC, Inc. before recently joining SunBorne
Development, LLC. In addition to his work related experience, Mr. Retrum also shares
a passion for aviation and currently holds a commercial/instrument and certified
flight instructor certificate.
With a combined total of over 54 years of master plan development experience, 25
years aviation specific, the management team at the SunBorne Companies brings to
the a table a wealth of aviation and master plan development experience. Long established
relationships developed with highly regarded aviation architects, designers, contractors,
engineers and suppliers give the SunBorne Companies the unique ability to manage
and control all facets of design, development and construction at Centennial InterPort™.
